SAN TAN VALLEY — Tom Bearup has joined the race for sheriff in Pinal County, to replace congressional candidate Paul Babeu when he leaves office at the end of the year.
A Republican, Bearup formerly was a top aide to Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and ran against him two times.
Bearup is an Arizona native and recent San Tan Valley resident who says he wants to eliminate unnecessary spending as a top priority. Saying he wants to be a “people’s sheriff,” he added, “This community has invested millions of dollars on the people who serve here. I want to look at the budget and see what areas we can make more efficient.”
